I have just stumpeled upon the Document Importer, and it works great in my testing.

But one thing I have not been able to find a solution to is what i do with special characteres. F.eks if "%" is a part of filename, it fails. Do you have any tricks on how to handle this?

Version 2.0 of the software allows you to import from an OleDB datasource.

This could even be a spreadsheet (Provided you have installed the necessary drivers http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=13255 ); see the examples in the examples directory of the installed software.

You can specify a column for the source filename.

You can specify a column for the destination filename.

To clean this up for SharePoint you may change the destination file names to remove the unwanted characters.

You could even do a search a replace to do this.
